Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) is the most commonly used plasticizer in the phthalate family and is widely employed as one of the primary, extensively utilized, and cost-effective plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the plastic industry. DOP is a transparent oily liquid with a prolonged shelf life that does not dissolve in water. It exhibits excellent heat resistance and UV ray resistance, leading to desired physical and mechanical modifications without altering the chemical structure of the polymer. Consequently, it is extensively employed as a plasticizer in the PVC industry.
